Being a feminist is not easy in India. We are collectively a culture that follows the caste system (even the urban, educated Indians follow this deplorable social order) - and the status of a single woman (widowed or divorced) is low down in the hierarchy. In this context, I am invisible in the Indian society because I am a single, divorced woman. Shame is the weapon of choice for my culture that wishes to keep women oppressed. I wish to learn how to fight this losing battle. And from Gabor Maté and others, I hope to learn how to be compassionate towards myself.
